Squirrel-o-ween

And I thought my jack’o’lantern was impressive (I didn’t really, but I sure do like it).

Check out this one, which as seen on CuteOverload.com.

Our puppy Max looooves squirrels. He even knows the word, squirrel. To disguise what we’re talking about in front of him we have to say ‘chipmunk’ instead. Soon he’ll probably learn that word, too. If this pumpkin was sitting on our stoop, he would attack it every five minutes.

Tuesday’s Dinner

As the husband and I get back onto a regular schedule, so do our meals. Tonight, salmon with a spicy rub. On the side, roasted root veggies (potatoes and carrots) and fresh green beans, steamed to perfection. For dessert we shared a slice of pecan pie from the market. De-lish.

Yes, that is a crossword puzzle on the side. Only half-finished.

DSW Opens at Northgate Mall

From Yahoo ShoppingI buy a new pair of running shoes about once a year. By the year’s end (more like by the 10th month), the treads begin to wear down. I discovered the Brooks Adrenaline GTS series while training for a half-marathon in ’04, and since then that’s what I buy. I am a creature of habit, what can I say. Similarly, since ’04 I’ve always purchased from Super Jock N Jill in Green Lake. A Super Jock N Jill they make me try other shoes in addition to the one I know I’ll buy anyway. You try two different ones on each foot, then go outside and run up the street to test. Each time I choose the Adrenaline. I shell out over $100 for each pair including tax.

Northgate just opened a DSW, and I stopped by this weekend. Lo and behold, they’ve got the Adrenaline. They are selling the GTS 6 for $54.95. Right now I’m wearing the 7. I had no problems with the 6. It’s just that Brooks has to come out with a new model so you have to go with the flow. With my 7s beginning to show the typical wear and tear I’ve come to expect at around the 10th month, I bought the 6s today. What a bargain! I have to admit I feel a little bit guilty for turning my back on the local, independently owned running store.

I’ll get over it.

DSW, btw, is great. If you haven’t visited you should. At Northgate, you’ll find DSW where Gottschalk’s once was. They also have a store in Factoria. When I lived in Chicago I was walking distance to one. I also lived near a TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Nine West outlet store, and a Cost Plus. Sigh. Retail therapy at its finest.

Say hello to Jack

I haven’t done one of these in ages. So here was my attempt:

With the lights on:

With the lights off:

Not too bad, considering my decade-long layoff. Many thanks to the husband, who refused to hand over the glue when I asked. The center of my first “O” broke off and I wanted to glue it back on. Ha. He suggested toothpicks to keep things together. Brilliant!

Dinner and a show

Dinner tonight was a special. Pork chops on the bone. Side salad. A little applesauce on the side.

We are watching the post-game coverage of the Red Sox winning the World Series. Yay Sox. Even though the sis lives in CO, I was rooting for Boston. I just saw Lowell and Youkillis spraying champagne on themselves. They were wearing goggles. Goggles? Whatev. I know it stings and all, and probably not a good thing to have alcohol in your eyes. But they look real silly. It’s not like the old days. Ah well.

Yay Sox!

Work, play

This morning at practice we did the Head of the Lake course twice. Since our boathouse is near the finish line, we did the course in reverse first, then did the official route from start to finish for the second piece. Paddled in some areas for safety (fog and cautious turns). When we reached Lake Washington, close to Husky Stadium, we could hear the Husky Marching Band practicing. At 7 in the morning, or whatever time it was. Probably right around 7. It’s not every day, that you wake up at 5:40 in the a.m., can watch a beautiful sunrise on a rare, clear, autumn day in Seattle, and on top of that, be serenaded by a marching band. You have to cherish it.

Anyway, on to more important things … Lunch, while watching Huskies football:

Three-bean chili (from the Market) with a few Guacamole Chips and saltine crackers. The guac chips I ate separately. The saltines I mixed in.

The husband’s lunch: Chicken & avocado on panini roll with a side of Samuel Smith:

Point, Huskies!

Last night Maggie & I attended the UW Volleyball game vs WSU. Because of poor planning, this was my dinner:

The Huskies started slow. The Cougs led in the first game but eventually the Dawgs got into their groove and won the game. They also won the next two games. Apparently everyone but Maggie & I got the memo that it was costume night. The “best costume” winners of the night: Whoopie Cushion girl and Blind Ref guy. Couldn’t get any decent photos of the costumes (some were quite funny, likee 7-year old Goth Girl). Sorry. But I did catch this one …

These are some tall girls right here.

UW is tied for first in the Pac-10 with Stanford. Stanford comes here for their second match this season (Huskies won the first) in a couple of weeks. I’m hoping the husband will go with me. Should be a great match. Nov. 8, Hec-Ed, if you’re not busy.
